How to enroll a device in "DO Enrollment"

Enrolling a Device in DO Mode

For each of your mobile devices to be associated with your FocusMDM workspace, you need to have the devices to physically complete the DO enrollment.
There are 2 options:

  1. Use a QR Code

  2. Use the DPC identifier


Note

Enrolling a device where the FocusMDM is the Device Owner of the device only works for devices with Android 6.0 or higher.

To enroll as DO using the QR Code, the device must be Android 7.0 or higher. Using the DPC identifier is the option for devices running Android 6.0

Using QR Code for enrollment: In-use devices (need a factory reset)

  1. Turn on the device

  2. Go to Settings > System > Reset Options > Erase all data (factory reset)

  3. And then follow the rest of the steps below from step 2

Using QR Code for enrollment: Fresh out the box (never been used nor setup) devices

  1. Turn on the device

  2. NOTE: You will not go through all the setup

  3. On the the first set-up screen (after Android has started up), tap on the first screen 6 times

  4. Connect to Wi-Fi, the click "NEXT" button (if have Wi-Fi, else use data on device)

  5. Either the camera screen is open and ready to scan QR-Code, or it will need to install a QR reader. (For Android 8.0, you'll be prompted to install a QR reader. Devices running Android 9 and later are pre-installed with a QR reader.)

  6. Scan the QR-Code from https://focus.dimagi.com/a/enroll/do

  7. Click "Setup and Continue" button

  8. Once the device finishes its setup, find the FocusMDM icon

  9. Open FocusMDM, then fill in device name and device phone number

  10. Click "ENROLL" button (Expected result: FocusMDM will flash successful enrollment message, then it shows the "SETUP" button)

  11. Click "minimize" button

  12. Click "SETUP" in FocusMDM Screen

  13. Grant ALL the permissions for the FocusMDM app

    1. This will show the list of permissions that must all be turned on for the FocusMDM App to work

    2. Grant all permissions by toggling each one to on

    3. You are now finished enrolling the device with FocusMDM

  14. Finish

Use DPC Identifier to Enroll in DO Mode

This is another method to enroll your devices if you cant read a QR Code or its easier to type in an identifier. 

NOTE:  When using this DPC token based provisioning method, the encryption is not required and system applications are removed from the device.

1) First Enroll the device

  1. Turn on the device

  2. Start performing a normal setup of a reset device

  3. Your device will do some checking and you will need to setup Wi-Fi

  4. When prompted to sign in with a Google Account, instead of using a Google email or a phone number , use the DPC identifier afw#dimagi

  5. The device will then indicate you are setting up Android workspace



Then install the FocusMDM app as the Device Owner for mobile device management

  1. The message from FocusMDM is "This account requires mobile device management. Install the FocusMDM app to enforce security polices required by the account."

  2. Press the "INSTALL" button

  3. The device will ask you to confirm the Install of FocusMDM, Again press "Install"

  4. It will download the FocusMDM from the App Store

  5. Open FocusMDM app, then fill in device name and phone number

  6. One of the required fields for enrollment form is workspace id. Your workspace id can be found at https://focus.dimagi.com/a/enroll/do

  7. Also fill in the device Owner name and Owner email although these are optional

  8. Click "ENROLL" button and FocusMDM will flash successful enrollment message

  9. You will be asked to "Accept" the Google terms

  10. Then FocusMDM will open

  11. In the FocusMDM App, the privacy policy must be read all the way to the end and the "I Agree" button pressed.

  12. Then you will be asked to turn on permissions in the Setup screen

Setup ALL the permissions for the FocusMDM app

  1. This will show the list of permissions requested that must all be turned on for the FocusMDM App to work

  2. Grant all permissions by toggling each one to on

  3. You are now finished enrolling the device with FocusMDM
