This paper summarizes the evidence base for CommCare and related systems. We reviewed all published papers on CommCare, several unpublished (gray literature) studies of CommCare, all the published papers on alternative systems to CommCare we could find, and selected papers on highly relevant topics. These papers provide substantial evidence that CommCare improves the access, quality, experience and accountability of care provided. Several themes emerged from the evidence such as that CommCare improves CHW credibility and that CommCare can be used by programs to improve health system efficiency.
