Accessing and Downloading Chatbot Data

This page provides an overview of how you can retrieve data from chatbot interactions on OCS, and initial guidance on how to utilise such data, e.g. for M&E.

Overview

There are currently 2 options for accessing data on chatbot interactions. These include:

1. Downloading data from all interactions in a CSV file. In order to access data in a CSV file, navigate to the homepage of your chatbot experiment. Scroll down to "All Chat Sessions" and select "download all". A CSV file will be downloaded.

2. Viewing each individual session with a chatbot (can also be downloaded as a PDF, using browser options). As shown in the image above,  you can view each individual interaction with the bot by selecting the "session details" option in every row.

How to utilise data from OCS

A common question we are asked is: how do we obtain useful structured data from chatbot transcripts?

Currently, OCS does not support structured data. However in the meantime, here are some ideas to help supplement efforts

  1. Say we are implementing a role-play bot and we want to assess the impact of it or even summarise what people's responses were. We could ask the bot either to summarise each interaction (in a specific format of our choosing), at a certain point in the conversation. Alternately, we could make a secondary bot, the purpose of which is to analyze transcripts from all interactions with the original bot.

  2. We could utilise pre- and post-surveys to collect basic kinds of structured data (in particular demographic data, or pre- and post-surveys to measure changes in attitudes, beliefs and knowledge as a result of using the bot, one time or over time).
