Introduction

This is a guide to enable SMS for the Google Nexus 7 tablet.

Warning: This is not recommended to do. Only follow this guide if you know what you are doing. It is highly recommended to create a backup of your tablet before continuing

Steps

  1. Download all files in the Downloads section
  2. Update your Nexus 7 to Android version 4.4.4 build number KTU84P (checked under Settings -> About tablet)
  3. Install the USB drivers following these directions: http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html#InstallingDriver
  4. Run the Nexus Root Toolkit and allow it to update all binaries
  5. Pick Nexus 7 Android 4.4.4 KTU84P for model type
  6. Press the Unlock button in NRT and follow its directions
  7. Select the Custom Recovery checkbox under Root and press Root button and follow its directions
  8. Select Launch under Advanced Utilities
  9. Select "File is on this computer" under "Flash Zips"
  10. Select "Flash Zip"
  11. Press "OK"
  12. Press "Add Zips to Flash"
  13. Select the zip you downloaded previously
  14. Select "Confirm Operation" and follow its directions
  15. Continue setting up as described in Android Phone Setup
