Please select your cloud location wisely

Once created, a project space cannot be transferred from one cloud to another.

When you select a cloud location and create a project there, that cloud will remain the locality of the project space for its entire existence. The cloud services in different hosting locations are firmly isolated from one another.

Based on this, please select your cloud location carefully, considering both your current and anticipated needs — including user locations and data compliance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Managing Your Accounts On the Cloud Environments

You can determine which cloud your project space is hosted on by looking at the first part of the project space's URL.

The URL of a project space hosted on the India cloud

For example, the project space: https://india.commcarehq.org/a/cs-sandbox is hosted on the India Cloud.

You can also click on the gear icon ⚙️ when logged into any project space and look at the bottom of the expanded menu:

Yes! Each cloud operates entirely separately from the other cloud locations. Because of this, users will need one account for each cloud. Note: you can use the same email address to create your account on every cloud.

In order to create a project space in a new cloud location, you will need to create an account on that cloud. Go to the sign-up URL for whichever cloud you'd like to use, and follow the instructions to sign up for an account. (EU sign-up / India sign-up / US sign-up). Once you have created your account, you will be prompted to create a project space on that cloud, as well.

For users that already have an account in one of our cloud locations, you can click "Add Project" in your current project space and then click to the new cloud location where you want to create a project space. Once redirected via this link, choose the "sign up" option if it is your first time using the new cloud.

Moving Projects Across Cloud Environments

No. Once created, a project space cannot be transferred from one hosting location to another. We recommend that you set up a new project in your selected cloud from scratch.

Partially. You can manually rebuild parts of your project space in another cloud location, by copying applications, exporting and importing elements like lookup tables, case types, and data structures as well as active case data.

You can see the full guidance here: https://dimagi.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/commcarepublic/pages/3140550663 .

Fully rebuilding all project spaces is not recommended, as it requires rebuilding everything from scratch and risks disrupting operations.

Instead, we recommend starting new project spaces on the new cloud and continuing your current projects. In this model, new projects launch on the new cloud, while existing ones continue on the old cloud until completion. Over time, all projects transition to the new cloud and the old spaces can be closed.

If you have questions about this, please reach out to your Account Lead at Dimagi.

Yes. Just as you are billed for each unique project space, you will receive a separate bill for each unique project space on any cloud.

The only exception is Enterprise partners, who will receive billing statements for all project spaces within one cloud location as per https://dimagi.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/commcarepublic/pages/2143955299/Subscription+Management+Billing#Multi-Server-Subscriptions

Enterprise Software Plans Only: Cloud Specific Questions

For Enterprise subscriptions that have project spaces across multiple clouds, we offer support in aligning your billing across cloud locations. Plan fees will continue to be billed monthly from the cloud of your primary Enterprise project space, and on demand fees for excess users or SMS from project spaces on additional clouds will be invoiced separately on a quarterly basis.

See https://dimagi.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/commcarepublic/pages/2143955299/Subscription+Management+Billing#Multi-Server-Subscriptions for details.

No. The https://dimagi.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/commcarepublic/pages/2143945885 operates on a cloud by cloud level. This means that if you have project spaces on multiple clouds, each Console will give you information about project spaces on that cloud only.

If you have spaces on two or three clouds, you will need to monitor the Consoles in each cloud location to get the global view of all your organization’s usage.
