Enable Strong Password Settings for Mobile Workers

Overview

This setting enforces strong, complex passwords for Mobile Workers in CommCare to enhance account security. This document outlines the required password format, provides step-by-step instructions for enabling the setting, and explains its impact.

Password Requirements

When enabled, newly created mobile workers will be required to create passwords with at least the same strength as web users. The password complexity must pass an algorithm-based strength score.

Who can Enable This Setting

The Project Admin, with full access to the project space, can enable this setting.

How to Enable This Setting

Please refer to the guide below:

  1. Login to CommCareHQ: The Project Admin should navigate to the relevant project space.

  2. Access Project Settings: Click on the gear icon at the top of your screen and select ‘Project Settings’ under the ‘Manage Project’ section.

  3. Enable Setting: On the left-hand side of your screen, select ‘Privacy and Security,’ then check the box labeled ‘Require Strong Passwords for Mobile Workers’.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Update Privacy Settings' to apply the change.

Impact on Existing Mobile Workers

It does not impact existing Mobile Workers; however, when a Mobile Worker resets their password, they will be required to update it to meet the strong password criteria.
