Data Security Features

This section includes a subset of features built in CommCare that are specifically assigned to help protect data and security. Please note that this list is not comprehensive.

Setting up Two-Factor Authentication

Some project spaces require users to login using two factor authentication (2FA). This is an extra security step that requires you to input a token from generated by your phone (via call, SMS, or an authenticator app) before you can complete your login to CommCare. If you need to troubleshoot 2FA, check out this page: Troubleshooting Two Factor Authentication Issues.

Single Sign-On for CommCare HQ

Single sign-on (SSO) allows you to give your staff one account for all of the systems your organization uses. If you have a CommCare Enterprise account and have SSO set up for your organization, you can require your users to log in to CommCareHQ using their SSO credentials.

Shortened Inactivity Timeout

All CommCare HQ users are automatically logged out after too long without activity. By default, this timeout is two weeks. Find out more about shortening the timeout here.

Secure sharing of data files using Dropzone

It's a common need to share files among web users. Perhaps for coordinating an initial case data upload. Maybe for sharing a file that has been downloaded from HQ but then altered in some way (like deleting all but a few columns or performing a vlookup with some data).
