  • For CommCare HQ Users: You can easily switch the entire CommCare HQ website interface to a language other than English.

  • For Mobile App Users: Your mobile app can communicate with your target community in their specific language.

How It Works

CommCare enables multilingual support in several powerful ways. You can easily configure translations for both CommCare HQ users and your Mobile App users. Here's how:

For CommCare HQ Web Users.

You can easily switch the language of the entire CommCare HQ website interface. This will change the language of all menus, buttons, and system messages, as shown in the video below.

To do this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Click the Settings icon in the top right corner of the page and select My Account Settings.

  2. In the "My Information" section, find the My Language option.

  3. Choose your desired language from the dropdown menu.

  4. Click Update My Information.

The CommCare HQ interface will immediately be translated into your chosen language.

For Mobile App Users

Localizing your CommCare app involves translation the application content (your forms, surveys, case lists, and details), and the user interface instructions (things like the “start” or “sync” buttons, error messages, etc). Translating both of these involves a few key steps. Each step below links to a detailed guide to help you along the way:

  3. Translate Content: Enter your translations using your chosen method.

  4. Configure Interface Elements: Add translations for the mobile app's user interface strings (e.g., "Next," "Save").

  6. Test and Deploy: Always verify translations on mobile devices before publishing your application.
