Before building your CommCare forms, you will need to decide what kind of form you would like to build, and how to nest them within your menu. This page describes how you these forms, menu types, and menu settings differ.

Menu Types & Settings

Before you build a CommCare form, you will need to decide what kind of menu you want your form to be nested in. Below are some of the options.

All menu types can be managed in Menu Settings. To find Menu settings, click, the top-level menu item and it will bring you to the settings. For example, see the menu settings for a surevy below:

As you can see, menu settings look different depending on the menu item that you have selected

Surveys

When building surveys in CommCare, all forms are nested within a Survey Menu that can only add other survey forms.

In the Survey Menu, the only settings that exist are related to Multimedia in CommCare .

Case List

When you select a case list, your application will always start with a registration form. In building out other forms, you have the option to select another registration or follow-up form.

As you can see, the Case List Menu is more complicated than a Survey Menu. In this, we have the following settings

Menu: This is where you define your case management parameters, including your case type

Multimedia: Like Surveys, this is related to Multimedia in CommCare

Case List & Case Details: On these two tabs, you can define and configure your case management settings, as described here: Case List and Case Detail Configuration

Shadow Menu

A shadow menu essentially replicates another menu that you previously identified. It is most similar in nature to the Case List Menu.
