What is a product in CommCare Supply?
It is the same as the product that is being tracked in the supply chain! For example: ORS packets, boxes of coartem, ART medicines.
Initial Setup
You can create products manually or using bulk upload tool. Go to Setup page > Manage Products, and create your inventory.> Products
(Pre-requisite: "CommCare Supply" feature flag needs to be enabled for the domain)
Option 1: Create products manually
Click 'New Product' and fill in required information.
SMS codeBoth Name and Program are required fields. Product ID is the product identifier that
CommTrackCommCare Supply system recognizes and processes. Please define all Product IDs as one word, leading with an alpha character. The ID cannot be strictly numbers or a value with spaces. This is also especially important when mobile users are submitting stock status of multiple products in one SMS report. Products coming from different
sourcesources or serving different purposes are categorized into different programs. If all products in your
CommTrackCommCare Supply system are of the same type, you can just keep it as Default.
Option 2: Create products in bulk
You could also bulk import your products by clicking 'Bulk Import Products'. Download your product data file (in csv format) and fill in names, codes, and costs (if it is part of your use case) for your products in Excel. Upload it Note only name and program are required, everything else is optional. Both 'id' and 'program_id' are generated by the CommCare Supply system.
Upload the downloaded configuration file and go back to Manage Products screen. You should will be able to see the uploaded products.
Updating product info:
You can also edit product information directly on HQ for products that have already been added. To do this, click on the product name on the Available Products page. From this screen, you can edit and save the new product information.
Deleting products:
Note that currently there is no HQ interface for deleting products from the list, you may only Archive products, which hides them from showing in reports and exports but does not remove them completely from the system. To archive a product, simply select the 'archive' button in the product selection screen. You can then view a list of archived products and un-archive them later if need be. To permanently delete products from the list you will need to contact a Dimagi developer.
CommTrack system could provide an estimate of actual consumption rate of products at different locations when mobile users submit real data for more than three months. But before that happens, setting up default consumption values for your products will be needed as a proxy for CommTrack to come up with estimates.

Though you could associate products with specific facilities, we currently do not support syncing products to specific facilities. This means when a mobile user in facility A opens CommTrack CommCare Supply app, he would see all registered products though he is only associated with a few of them. That said, the feature of associating products with locations is coming soon! |
