CommTrack: SMS vs. Mobile App

  • CommTrack began with providing SMS solutions, enabling any functional mobile phone to submit stock report and receive corresponding alerts and reports in structured SMS format. Learn more about CommTrack SMS capabilities and our case studies. Instructions on using SMS are located here: CommConnect- SMS in CommCare
  • CommTrack can also be used on a mobile application (as opposed to a structured SMS workflow). For an overview and features of the CommTrack mobile app, check out our video demos. If using mobile app to collect data, a good starting point is our demo app published on CommCare Exchange
    • Get the CommTrack app from the exchange, edit it to match the needs of your project, and install it on the phone (upgraded version coming soon!)
    • Instructions on deploying CommTrack. To successfully log into CommTrack mobile app you should have mobile user account created first.
    • Launch the app and start collecting data!
  • Not sure which fits your need better? This page explaining differences between SMS & Mobile Application might help you make a decision!

CommTrack On Mobile App

  • CommTrack on a mobile app is designed for mobile agents who are assigned to collect and report logistics data of products in facilities. They are created by supervisors on CommTrack web.
  • Once they log into the CommTrack mobile app with the credentials provided by supervisors, their associations with given products and given facilities are synced to their mobile app.
  • Data cannot be edited by the agent once it gets submitted. The phone syncs with the server automatically when there is internet connectivity.
